Welcome!
Hello! Iām Rosie, the heart and hands behind Rosieās Casting Studio, based in Paraparaumu, New Zealand.
I specialise in creating treasured family keepsakes.
In 2019 my son was born 3 months prematurely. Weighing less than a kilogram, and still in an incubator, I had his little hand and foot cast. Those tiny casts became my most treasured possessionsā¦and inspired me to start my own business.
Time is elusive, isn't it? One moment, they're tiny bundles in our arms; the next, they're exploring the world on their own. My dream is to help you never forget a single detail.
From framed to freestanding, fingers to toes, each piece is lovingly crafted and uniquely yours to treasure.
Iād love to create something special for you. Thanks so much for considering me!

My studio is based in Paraparaumu, about 40 mins from Wellington CBD, and appointments take around 1 hour. Youāll be welcomed inside, offered a drink, and made comfortable.
Weāll have a chat about the different keepsake design options, and Iāll guide you through making decisions on the finishing options available. There will be samples for you to see up close, and Iāll explain the mould making process to you before we begin.
-
I will be dressed in my best apron mixing up a special concoction of alginate and water. Alginate is a seaweed-based material which is hypo-allergenic and safe to use on the most delicate skin ā it is even safe in the mouth as it is most commonly used in dentistry for taking teeth impressions. The alginate is nice and warm, has a consistency similar to thick custard, and takes less than a minute to set.
-
Your little one might be awake or asleep. Either is fine! I will gently moisturise their hands and feet and place them into the alginate mixture to set - which takes up to a minute. The mixture is warm, and sometimes they donāt even notice Iām doing it. Iāll take as many moulds needed - itās all part of the experience!
-
Once the alginate has set, the consistency becomes rubbery. I will gently wriggle your babyās hand or foot to break the seal of the mould, and it will slip right out. Sometimes there is some alginate residue leftover on your babyās skin which I will wipe away.
-
Thatās your part done, now itās over to me to finish your keepsake according to what youāve chosen.
Each cast goes through a whole series of stages (drying, refining, sanding, priming, painting, varnishing, framing, photographing, and packaging) which takes around 12 weeks.
As soon as your keepsake is finished, Iāll email you to arrange collection.
